Introduction
Porter isn't really a job any more on trains in canada. But when travelling by train was the height of luxury. Porters took care of a passenger's every need on sleeping car trains. They were almost exclusively black men serving white passengers. In the early days, porters like mister clark's father worked incredibly long hours with little sleep and very low pay. There was zero job security. If you spoke up, sometimes it could lose you a trip. That's what i was told by the old reporters. And most of them wouldn't take it.
