Pentheus and the Mirror in Mystic Initiation

Pentheus has all the negative emotions of the initiate and he resists the cult there's also strange things which I can go into in more detail if you like. Much of his otherwise inexplicable character and otherwise completely inexplicable experiences correspond almost exactly to Plutox account of mystic initiation even seeing double is nothing to do with being drunk so why does he see double? The mirror was actually used as a kind of stage prop in the ritual yes perhaps create an illusion or something but they were much less of a true representation than metal class we have now.
