Sid Moreland was Edwin Edwards's assistant when he ran for governor in 1987. He says the campaign of 83 was great, but service from 84 to 87 was a very difficult experience. In 1985, Edwards and six others were indicted on federal racketeering charges. The case ended in a mistrial; Edwards was later found not guilty.
