Why Should Anyone Care About Quantum Computing?

Quantum computing is still far enough away to have a big impact that it's not something you need be, like sounding the alarm or anything. But there are a few real world things that i think quantm computing will be useful for in the short term. And then i can talk a little bit about what could happen if the titonological trend continues.
