The Importance of the End of American Slavery
In 1865, Lincoln becomes genuinely more religious. I think that his spirituality by then was genuinely felt. But he also understood that the country was living through an unprecedented series of events which were uncannily, eerily biblical in their significance. The language itself sounded like something that could have been out of the Bible. He borrowed heavily from the style of the King James Bible.
