The Sun Shield Keeps Web Cold and Dark
The sun shield keeps web cold and dark. Any infared heat from the sun or earth would blind the telescope. Five layers are made of gossamer sheets, not unlike mylar birthday balloons. Light from the sun takes about eight minutes to get to the earth. So we're seeing the sun as it was eight minutes ago.
