Is There a Time Between a Release Candidate and a Milestone?

When you have milestone releases, I assume it's pretty important to listen to what the users have to say about the release. Are there situations where you realize we've been kind of misdirected? We've been going in the wrong direction, and we need to take a step back, pull the feature out of the release again, maybe, and rework it. Has that happened before? I suppose it happened, but a long time ago,. It really is because it speaks so much about many things. The fact that you say there's a problem but I have the capacity to be able to solve it.
