The Importance of Patronage for Artists

Jay Handy: If we were all getting paid a living wage and feeling good about our finances, giving somebody 20% would not feel weird at all. But as we learned in that tipping episode, it's way more complicated than that because of the systems restaurants have had to put together. The concept of patrons from an artist's perspective, they're still around, right? Like the Medice in Italy were big patrons and responsible for a lot of the Renaissance work. Today's world, the patrons are big corporations. It's the Googles and the apples.
