Doyou says ornament can be used to maximise the surface area of a building and provide habitat for natural systems, plants. Doyou: 'There's a big opportunity within the use of ornament to do it in such a way that maximises the surface area' He argues modernist architects should not put roof gardens on top of concrete cubes as they are too jarring. But he adds there is an effective solution with biphelic design where materials mimic biological organisms.
