Yung's Revelation of the Snake

Yung says the snake was regarded by early gnostic christians as a kind of deity whose faculties were more developed and advanced than the original deity that actually struck re the world. The movement from that state of unself consciousness, paradise, to this profane state of awakening can be regarded not so much as a descent, but as an ascent of sorts, even though a painful one. Yung: Women have unduly suffered for their role in tempting humanity towards higher order self consciousness.
