The Invocation of Eminent Domain in Seneca Village
The real estate along Central Park is, you know, some of the most valuable in the city. And it became so right on the backs of the destruction of Seneca Village. Mayor Wood invokes eminent domain and seizes all of that territory. The final remaining residents who are refusing to leave their homes are actually very violently and physically removed from the community by the police in 1857.
