i think stories underplay the role of luck, and i'll tell you why i think that's a problem. Our brains crave some sort of bigger meaning. A good story as humans doing things rather than things just happening is not an interesting story. We want a human cause, like a motivation for everything. And i think it affects our compassion towards those who who've just had bad luck.
