There is a large debate about whether a code of conduct are good or bad. I think they are good. They are not a magic spell to solve every problem around, but you have something to agree on and then you can have variation about what you do. If the mission is to convince everyone that software freedom is for everyone, it's really critical to have a diverse community. Otherwise, you just have a reflection of the stereotypes, the genre. The one with the more power will be the one very diverse community of contributors.
