The Battle of Trenton
Washington paraded his prisoners through Philadelphia so that everyone could see these Hessians that he had conquered. After the war, somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 Hessians actually stayed in the US. They found the growing German community and the promises of freedom and liberty to really be quite an attractive incentive to stick around. At least 5,000 of them had deserted to fight for the American side.
