The Tension Between Leuenhardt and Hampson
Benjamin Leuenhardt argued that Hampson's pseudo-naturalism had ideological implications which would possibly be compatible with authoritarianism. Would he have been correct without the vindication? Well, it's a counterfactual. We know he was vindicated. It's always, I think, possible to see latent possibilities. When they become manifest, we can say, yes, we will prove right, but the latent possibilities may have been there anyway.
