The Ancient Sumerians Invented Ice Houses

The ancient Sumerians built an ice house in the year 13 of Shulgi's reign. It is mentioned obliquely, but we know that it was there. The one in Mari was discovered in the 30s. Is it a huge insight into how that world operated and how it worked? I'm not a Sumerian expert at all. We don't know if there was only one or if there were many in their various different cities. But we know they had access to ice. And we know again, it was a luxury. It wasn't something that was there for everybody.It was a prestige product.
