The Pathogenesis of Pneumonia

Dr. Montgomery: We just classify it based on where the patient acquired it and picked up the pneumonia. H-CAP is no longer a term that we use, because it resulted in many more patients getting unnecessary broad spectrum antibiotics. So now really the definition is where someone was living when they got pneumonia, and that determines it. The path of physiology of pneumonia really does inform our understanding of risk and treatment.
