The Relationship of the Other Is Passive
Love is something that you cannot make some one love you. You cannot manufacture it, at least not love that comes from where somebody who's fully inhabited in their own sovereignty offers you something like that. And so we have the notion of unrequited love. The erotic relationship is essentially one of reproductivity. We don't get the fusion we want, but we get to create to things that are symbols of that fusion.
