Black consciousness paper really came about from those of you having conversations in the Atlanta project developing an internationalist anti-colonial consciousness as well as a commitment to black self-determination. The first time that I can think of now with my work and what people may call black nationalists or black power came together was at the end of the summer of the Arkansas Project the community wanted to thank the project so there was this big thing in um hell in the Arkansas and the black community where people were thanking those of us who had been working there whether we were leaving or not. There were some people from Portland, Oregon, some brothers, Isaac Allen who became a Muslim minister years later James Hill who was very involved
