The Subversive Power of Roman Violence in Revelation
I was wondering whether it's even subversive at the literary level in that it's taking Roman violence language, bloodthirsty conquering language and subverting it. But clearly, the book of Revelation is not urging people to pick up swords and to go to battle. It's telling you go into battle when you worship the lamb and die. And subvert the gods of Rome by worshiping the lamb who was on the throne. I'm pretty happy, pretty settled with the idea that it's fiction and that it is describing something that has redemptive value.
