I think Jim Carrey really made the film. If anyone else had performed Ace Ventura, it would have been awful. But personally, I love his physical comedy. It's not very intellectual stuff, but sometimes it's fun to just watch a guy jumping around. The all-time greatest comedies are Charlie Chaplin, Groucho of Marx and Marx Brothers. There are also older ones like Life of Brian or Spinal Tap. What makes a film excellent? What are the crucial elements for making an excellent film? That is an excellent question.
