The Fine Structure Constant

The fine structure constant, among other things, determines the strength of the electromagnetic force. One over alpha happens to have a value very close to 137. The uncertainty in this number here is extremely small. It would suggest that the laws of physics are not precisely the same on earth as they are on the other side of the universe.
