The Low-Hanging Fruit of Austerity?
Some areas of public spending have never fully recouped from austerity. Even with real-time increases planned up to 24-25 under the Rishi-Sonak plans, those departments were still expected to have budgets that were at least around a third smaller than they were in 2010. We've heard from the Institute of Fiscal Studies that they think the government has a £60 billion actual gap and might need tens of billions of cuts over next four years.
