In the early parts of the book, my first thought was, charley's ageneration. He really to me his attitudes and the choices he made. We meet him as he's sharing his diagnosis with people he hasn't spoken to in years. And i think that kind of assumption that you were just in the world and should be handed certain things is that mid century american man's American white man's assumption.
