The abi darma is an essential part of the original buddhist canon. The sutras arevery verbal in narrative, but many of the suitors when you read them, are lists. And they get repetative and didactic and teach you. But if you want to just look at the raw information, the pure lists, the way it all lays out... It's laid out in this kind of very structural way in the abidama. That’s what it is. There are seven books of the teravaden abiDarma; then there are some spin offs of other schools. Beth Jacobs is a clinical psychologist in private practice and a former faculty member of the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University. She is also a teacher in the Soto Zen tradition and incorporates Buddhist studies and meditation into her work as both a psychologist and a writer.
