Is There a Need for More Hospital Beds?
The number of hospital beds that canserve patients in the us. Has declined from about one point five million in the mid 19 seventies down to only about 920 thousand in two thousand 19. The capacity for our health care system to treat people, much less to treat large numbers of people in a crisis, has been drastically slashed. Instead of talking about how equipped society is to deal with a crisis like a pandemic disease, there's been an increasing focus on blaming individuals for being sick. Neither side seems to put forward any call for greater collective action.
