Sea Wolves, a History of the Vikings
Norse men use their seafaring advantage to plunder settlements on the coastline of Britain and its neighbours. They target monasteries like Lindisfarne, which are poorly defended and rich with treasure. In 795 they ransacked abbeys in the Hebides of Northern Ireland. But these 8th century marauders never call themselves Vikings. We don't know why the Vikings start their hit and run raids. Are they seeking new land, women, riches, an easier climate or glory? Lars Braumorth is the Norwegian author of Sea Wolves, a history of the Vikings.
