The History of the Chinese in Jamaica
By the end of 1884, there were about 5,000 Chinese who had immigrated to Jamaica. Discrimination against Chinese Jamaicans persisted. Major anti-Chinese routes broke out in 1918, 1938, and 1965 over episodes of racial tensions and intolerance. Many of the indentured Chinese laborers went on to open small shops where they are known as Misachin or Mischin. Dr. Ho speculates on how the Chinese carried their cuisine with them to their new island home.
