In Japan, people are very conscious of protecting themselves from the elements. I don't think that English people catch a cold more often than anyone else. The UK is probably lagging behind a little bit in terms of its internet connectivity. You just don't make any effort to speak other languages here. It's just English. No, there isn't so much of a need for English people to learn another language.
