The Importance of Being Aware
Wendell Berry calls this a modern superstition and bias he writes about quote the hubris of presumption treating life as knowable predictable and within our control. The most radical influence of reductive science is that it institutionalizes the human wish or the sin of wishing that life might be or might be made to be predictable. Barry's key line at the end of the essay is to treat life as less than a miracle is to give up on it but the insight that I find incredibly helpful is the level at which we can believe in miracles.
