The Unknowability of the Solution Idea
The main disagreement I have with effective altruism is that it assumes that we can rank the different possible ways of helping the world. The thing that causes the most progress in the world is new knowledge. And so this is an inherently unpredictable thing. Like we don't know which cause area is going to come up with the next breakthrough because breakthroughs by their nature are impossible to predict.
