The Darkest Moment Is Just Before the Lights Go Out
Reading the book does give you optimism because things were much worse than there's this great moment where Rose Wilder Lane gets visited by the government for her postcard. But seeing how bad things were and how little support there was on either side for a lot of these principles, in other parts of when they were alive, it puts it in perspective that we probably aren't going through the worst crisis for American liberty that this nation has seen.
