AEWCH 201: THE SPIRITUAL LIFE OF HORROR
Against Everyone with Conner Habib
Laughter Is the Same as Dread
When we're scared, when there's a jump scare, for instance, we're driven into the experience of the motion and sound of physicality. In that jolt, horror offers a branching pathway. Laughter is the sound that the body makes when consciousness is moved from ottment to brahman. We also need to be terrified as we're delighted. I've never really liked horror aesthetics, where there was this sort of worship of just the aesthetic, or the ornament, the ornamentalism of it. It seems like a way to me of making horror ironic, so we don't really have to encounter it.
