Movies vs. Capitalism

CHAPTER

The End of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks

The movie could have been an effective satire, but it's not. When someone is the oppressor in a larger societal sense, it doesn't really work. By the end of the movie, spoiler alert, her store, Meg Ryan's store goes out of business. She has fallen in love with Tom Hanks. So it is a full on endorsement of everything that has transpired so far in the movie. And I think this is something we see time and time again with these movies where like, you ask someone from the era about that film and what they tell you has nothing to do with what the movie is actually about.
