I think that understanding that this type of counting is probably not super helpful is important. I like doing spot checks on protein, making sure I'm getting enough calories. It's a lot like monitoring your heart rate during running in that regard. Like it's good to have a general feel for where your zones lie, but you shouldn't be staring at your heart monitor to determine your feel. You're probably going to need to eat more than your base metabolic rate might be if you're resting.
