Giving Alms Is the Core Matter
Chrysostom: The duty of almsgiving is completely disconnected from the moral status of the recipient. Charity is so called because we give it even to the unworthy, Chrysostom says. It is not money itself, but greed, the lust for material things that is the core vice, he adds.
