The Semantic Layer and the Implications

I've been thinking a lot about the semantic layer and the implications of that. Do you have any thoughts on the semantic layer? Yeah, obviously that they should be too agnostic, right? I'm not sure whether a decks, obviously is Microsoft specific. And I think now DVDs also, and a lot of other vendors are also trying to implement their own form of semantic layer.
