Bruce Tim told Vulture, everybody who came to the audition for the Joker was doing basically the Adam West era Joker actor. All of the actors that we tested were all doing these really silly and bizarre voices. None of it had any serious threat to it at all. And then you call Tim Curry, who we talked about in Fern Gully, who took it way too far. Bruce Tim continued, Tim Curry actually gave us something really close to what we wanted. It was funny and weird, but also definitely had some menace to it."
