The Importance of Decision-Making
In complex decisions, the creative phase is often followed by a mechanical perspiration phase in which one ties down details of the explanation that are not yet hard to vary. For an example, an architect whose client asks how tall a skyscraper can be built does not just calculate that number from a formula. The decision-making process may end with such a calculation, but it begins creatively with ideas for how the client's priorities and constraints might best be met by new design.
