The Different Types of Nuclear Reactors
The fleet of 1960 reactors that are water based would not be subject to those same conditions. Water is your moderator instead of graphite. And so in the case of things getting too hot, the water boils off and the reaction dies. Meltdown mostly is the radionuclides melt into a puddle and sit there.
