The Importance of Poetry
The work of artists and poets brings to our world something which even the genius of science cannot bring. A single line from a great poem can bring us to our senses and can awaken our minds like almost nothing else. So poetry I would say is a necessary language. Why necessary? Because it offers something unique not the kind of profound detailed information which science can offer. Instead it offers vision and we need vision just as we need water. Without it we dry up, we perish because of the living poetry of the sacraments speaking of ourselves as Catholics. See Mervais writes somewhere beauty is heaven here below.
