The Joy of Snow in Sonic 3

Sonic 3's approach to this sort of thing rather than more extreme superficial and temporary mechanics. What I really love about Sonic 3 is that for the most part it kind of foregoes them, I think for a more... Just kind of designing the level differently. Designing the fundamental underlying level design is different based on the visuals. And you're still playing with the same mechanics, but each zone feels different.
