Good kings proved managing powerful magnates was perfectly possible. The old idea that England's barons were out to rip everything up in a blaze of greed and ambition unless restrained by the king is no longer credible. As I've said, Edward IV had won, Edward IV heat sorted it all out. So the reason for my rant at Richard reflects that 1483 to 77 seems to me to have a different character to have occurred for different reasons that obviously linked. When it came down to in 1455 to 71 was not overmighty subjects but an undermighty king. Henry VI's incompetence was the direct cause of that conflict.
