Even if fossil fuel use were to end instantaneously, there's nothing we can do to prevent this rise in sea level. With such large fractions of the global population living in coastal towns and cities, this change will have drastic impacts over the next century or so. Part of what makes instances of trauma so traumatic is the difficulty of articulating or communicating anything about them. But by seeking to bear witness to what's occurring, we can begin to help victims to unearth the pain that's being suffered.
