How Did the Greeks Borrow the Alphabet?

Greeks borrowed the alphabet from people that they routinely traded with called the phoenicians. In we still have in english to day, a remnant of the same sound change that occurred in greek during the time of the ancient greeks. Words like phone, philosophy, elephant and so on. All of these words came from greek.
