I think the amount of human suffering that would have been avoided without the rise of Hitler and the rise of the Bolsheviks would have been enormous. And Britain didn't really stand to gain much. It is as if Britain had a lot of interests to follow there because Britain's interest at that time was primarily focused on its empire rather than Europe. The British Empire kept on going and indeed was still a going concern even after World War II, I think the roots of its decline and fall lay in its failure to choose.
