When John Purcell was fired from Morgan Stanley Dean-Witter, his wife told him he had to go back. She said that other than having their kids, it was the happiest moment of her life. He went on to found a hedge fund with Mark Sandberg called Pequot and then Credit Swiss in Switzerland. When he returned to Morgan Stanley as an executive there were many people waiting for him when he walked through the door.
