The Origin Story of the Goths

The origin story is a really interesting one. We have a recorded origin story by someone who was partly of Gothic descent, but writing in sixth century Constantinople. It's a long way from Northern Poland in the first century where we can pretty securely locate the first historically attested Goths. Those stories might have just talked about a Northern island in general terms rather than specifically Scandinavia. If there is a Gothic migration from Scandinavia at about this time, they're coming 25 people at a time. There isn't the technology for it to be anything else. So it's not necessarily a mass migration.
