Roger Votel was commander of the U.S. Central Command in Iraq from 2003 to 2007. He says he and his team were tasked with taking out Abu Gaddia, a key member of Al Qaeda in Iraq. The mission took place 17 minutes after President Bush ordered troops across the border into Syria for an assault on Gaddia's compound. It is believed that at least one American soldier died during the operation.
