The Importance of Friendship in Foreign Policy

I don't know that anybody in the United States would ever put Indonesia in the enemy category. But there's a range, big range between close friend and bitter enemy. And if you're going to gain play this game, you have to make difficult decisions like that. The decision you make will have major implications for your larger relationship with that country. Anybody, particularly objecting to a minerals agreement with Japan should not qualify as a trade agreement within the meaning of the inflation reduction act. I'm sure if we do one with Indonesia exactly the same issues will come up.
